Zebra Caramel Popcorn

Top on my list of good desserts to make at home is this tasty zebra caramel popcorn!

Equipment

  • 2 pots
  • 1 9x11 rectangle baking pan
  • 2 mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cups/spoons

Ingredients
  

  • 1/3 cup Popcorn Kernels
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 stick Butter
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/3 cup White Chocolate melting chips or bark
  • 1/3 cup Milk Chocolate melting chips or bark

Instructions
 

  • Prepare your mis en place of all the ingredients for easy prep and cooking.
  • Pour the oil into a pot on the stove and turn on medium heat. Throw in 2 popcorn kernels and close the lid. Wait until the 2 popcorn kernels pop, take off the heat, remove the two kernels and pour in the rest of the kernels and shake around a bit. Put back on medium heat and let the kernels pop. Once the popping slows turn off the heat and let the last few kernels do their thang. Pour the popcorn into a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  • Take a smaller pot and melt the stick of butter at medium heat. Add the brown sugar and honey and continuously stir until it starts boiling. Let the caramel mixture boil, untouched for 5 minutes. While waiting, preheat the oven to 250 degrees F.
  • After 5 minutes, turn off the heat and stir in the vanilla, baking soda, and salt. Pour the caramel over the set aside popcorn and stir the popcorn to coat thoroughly. Spread into a shallow baking dish and put in the oven. Stir every 15 minutes and you will notice the caramel becoming a more golden brown as time goes on.
  • Remove after an hour and let cool for 5 minutes. Then drizzle melted white and milk chocolate over the popcorn to achieve the zebra caramel popcorn! You can opt out of this part and let the popcorn cool completely without the chocolate for a delicious, salty sweet caramel popcorn.
